ok so this is another vintage shot ... again there aren't much details about who what when and where... ooo and why ... it's just in a collection referred to as clover ... this for all who are intereste is clover12 ...

it would be great if you could credit where it's come from ... just so as people can see the original and it al advertises the vintage stock ....

cheers my dears

The why is easy enough to answer--its'a a pin-up under the thin legitimizing veil of being an image of an artist's model.

As to the clover...

One of the firms printing Postcards in Paris in the years before WWI used a red or a black cloverleaf as its symbol. The initials of the company--CCCC--were printed over the clover: one C on each leaf and the fourth on the base of the stem with an ampersand where the leaves meet the stem. Notably, the symbol does not appear on this image, but I have a scan of a different card with the same image (I certainly saved this one since this is much better scan) where the clover appears (in the lower right corner). Most CCCC cards are printed without numbers (though there is a series with 300s and 400s) so any numbering system is arbitrary and particular to the collector--while this was 12 where you found it, I have it marked 28. I have never been able to discover what CCCC stands for. As to why there is no trademark on this card: Off label reprinting and piracy were extremely common practices in the postcard business.

Thanks for the history! This sort of information just makes old photos even more special.
